About Artist
Jane Soodalter
I am a self-taught art photographer, inspired by working alongside my father, a professional photographer, all his life. Alongside a life-long career as an occupational therapist, I developed my shooting abilities and refined my photographic point of view using a macro lens to capture a perspective that speaks particularly to my creative eye. The visual beauty hidden in the everyday world has always called out me, enticing me to look around me closely to discover its secrets and to capture them, like a treasure, in my camera. I am particularly drawn to ordinary objects of my everyday world I see with every step out my door – dumpsters, trucks, trees, grass, seaweed, dirt, rocks. As I focus on these elements, I encounter a hidden world that reveals its grace, delicacy, beauty, humor and pathos in a special way that only my lens can discover and reveal to me. I am often amazed at what I see and try to capture this magic to share with my viewers. My work has been exhibited at a number of galleries, juried shows and publications, including, among many others, the Hammond Museum in North Salem, NY, Carriage Barns Art Center in New Canaan, CT, the Limner Gallery in Hudson, NY, bau Gallery, Beacon, NY, the Upstream Gallery in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, VT, the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY, the Garrison Art Center in Garrison, NY, the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, the 4th Berlin Foto Biennale 2016 in Berlin, Germany and the Heller Museum of the Hebrew Union College in NYC. I have been invited to show my work at Cazenovia College in NY, The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, in Woodstock, NY, The Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, NY and the Afra Art Gallery in New Brunswick, NJ.
