David was born in New Zealand and later moved to the United States, where he developed his passion for photography. Largely self-taught, his early work was shaped by the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand and an appreciation for nature, solitude, and quiet observation. His photography has since evolved through an exploration of both natural and manmade environments and tToday, much of his work is centered on Vietnam, a country to which he has returned repeatedly, seeking to understand and photograph its people, landscapes, traditions, and changing way of life. Through his Vietnam work, David looks beyond the surface of a place. His photographs explore the relationship between people and the land, the persistence of tradition, and the rhythms of everyday life. From the rice terraces of the northern highlands to the streets and intimate moments of Saigon, he seeks images that reveal something of the character and spirit of Vietnam. Whether photographing landscape, portrait, theatre, or everyday life, David approaches his subjects as an observer rather than a tourist. His aim is to create photographs that are visually compelling while leaving space for the viewer to discover their own story and connection within the image.
