About Artist
Axel Calvet
My name is Axel Calvet. I am a professional photographer who has always been fascinated in the creative world of photography. Studying Image (cinema, video & photography) in Barcelona launched my commitment to photography as a career. Originally, I am from Barcelona, I lived in Dublin, Philippines, Indonesia, Canary Islands, Madrid and now based in Melbourne (Australia). Having lived in so many different places, I consider myself fortunate. It has inspired me to create art with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. That experience has enriched the way I see the world, fuelling a constant sense of curiosity and giving me a broader and more perceptive perspective of life. I started my career in Fashion Photography in Barcelona and step by step I was captivated by fine art photography, even a wider world for creativity. After moving to Australia I decided to focus perseveringly on this discipline and in 2016, I´ve started building my fine art portfolio. I take my artwork from my own imagination from old experiences, songs, movies, paintings, sculptures or even dances as I love all the artistic expressions because that is where I feel home in my visual and narrative world. I make art to express and explore my memories, which are slippery, personal, simultaneously uncomfortable, comforting and not always reliable. I’ve been awarded winning as Best Emerging Talent in Fashion Photography ILFORD CCP Salon 2019, an Honorable Mention by PhotoAwards 2021 Magazine, received a Commended Award by The Mono Awards 2024 and 3 Honorable Mentions in Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA) in 2024. I was a finalist in Berlin Photo Awards 2025 and I received an Honorable Mention in International Photography Awards 2025 in Fine Art category. Also, in 2025, I was an exhibitor in HeadOn Festival and Bronze (3rd place) in Tokyo International Foto Awards in Fine Art discipline. In 2016, I was selected by the art gallery Red Gallery (Melbourne, Australia) for their show "Small group exhibition 2026". Also, this year, received an Honorable Mention in Monovision Awards (UK) in Fine Art category.
