About Artist
Gary Ricketts
Photography not of what is seen, but what remains. Gary Ricketts photographs the quiet distance between experience and memory. Working in black and white, he uses light, shadow, and atmosphere to explore moments of transition, separation, stillness, and reflection. His images often inhabit spaces where time seems suspended and the traces of a moment linger just beyond reach. Across series that move through cities, solitary figures, forgotten places, and fleeting encounters, his work explores what remains after the moment passes. Rather than recording events, the photographs suggest fragments of memory, traces of presence, and the subtle ways people move through the world together and alone. His photographs have received honors from the New York Center for Photographic Art, the Monochrome Photography Awards, and the reFocus Black & White Photo Contest. His portfolio received a Merit Award in Black & White Magazine’s 2026 Portfolio Contest, with selected images published in the magazine’s August Collectors’ Edition. His work has been exhibited at venues including Praxis Photo Arts Center, and his writing on photography has been published in FRAMES Magazine. A three-time Emmy® Award recipient for his distinguished career in network television, he now devotes his time to photography.
