Dead Homeland is a visual project that re-examines a part of Venezuela's history and binary violence culture that operates from the archetypes of the Miss and the Military in Venezuelan society. A military society, sometimes with guns, sometimes with heels.

About Artist

Andrés Pérez

Andrés Pérez (Venezuela, 1993) is a photographer and queer visual artist. Their work results from the union between creativity and political convictions. Studied Arts, specializing in cinematography and in 2021 began his education in photography. Their visual identity fuses artistic photography with expanded documentary practices. Through the images addresses social issues such as identity, memory, binary violence and aesthetics of control. They work on other themes related to the anti-patriarchal narrative with the interest of preserving a more diverse memory for the future. Pérez's photographs represent rebellion and playfulness, putting reality and imagination in tension. Since 2022 collaborates with pedagogical and photographic spaces, with the intention of extending their artistic vision to “de-masculinize” the gaze. The Prince Claus Fund, POY Latam, IILA Foto and Pride Photo awards are some of the recognitions the artist has received. In 2024 was a finalist for the Joop Swart Masterclass of World Press Photo and selected for the Latin American Panorama of Photo Vogue. Exhibitions at museums, photography centers and festivals such as Museum für Kunst & Gewerbe (Hamburg), Trastevere Museum (Rome), Preus Museum (Norway), Houston Center of Photography, Kranj Foto Fest (Slovenia), Pride Photo (Netherlands), Exposure+ Photo (Malaysia), Photo Saint Germain (Paris) and Bodily Autonomies Queer Festival (Germany) and other spaces dedicated to photography and contemporary art in the world. Publications in: Vogue Philippines, Vist Projects, Out Smart Magazine, Joia, Lenscratch, Der Greif, Foto Femme United, Canon Latam, DW Español, Organización Nelson Garrido and Cinco 8.
