Deb Leal is a visual artist born in Corpus Christi, TX, and raised in Milwaukee, WI. Her Chicana identity guides an observation of cultural memory, iconography, and regional nuances of the American experience. Vivid color and experimental techniques explore phenomena, like déjà vu, as her practice reflects on how shifting climates and advancing technologies influence generational expression. She is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
Leal was invited to the 2025 CPW-Kingston Portfolio Review and The New York Portfolio Review— hosted by The New York Times & Photoville. She has been commissioned The New York Times Magazine, Bon Appétit, and Bloomberg. She was a mentee for the 2024 Apostrophe Reps AMP Program, and her work is archived in Fotofilmic’s JRNL 22, Musée Magazine no. 26: Spaces, and Aesthetica’s “Future Now 2023”. She has exhibited in galleries and festivals including: The deYoung Art Museum, The Tenderloin Museum, San Francisco, CA; Photoville, Brooklyn Bridge Park, NY; and PhotoVogue’s “Panorama Latino-Americano,” Milan, IT.
