Andrés Gonzalez is a Spanish-Brazilian documentary photographer based in Porto, Portugal. His work explores labor, movement, and cultural transformation through long-term, place-based projects rooted in observation and immersion. His series City on the MOVE received the Official Nominee Choice in the Professional Street category of the reFocus Awards and was also included in the Official Selection of the International Photography Awards (IPA).
His ongoing projects include Follow the Sardines, documenting Portugal’s fishing and canning ecosystem from inside the restricted DOCAPESCA port, and Ignitions, a visual investigation of wildfires in Portugal. His photographic journey began in childhood, watching his father develop photographs in a home darkroom in Rio de Janeiro — an experience that shaped his sensitivity to image, time, and process.
He is the founder and curator of DES_Photomag, a platform and print publication dedicated to curated photographic excellence. His work has been featured internationally in exhibitions and publications, and he regularly publishes limited-edition booklets as an extension of his long-term documentary practice.
