About Artist
Robyn Finlayson
Robyn Finlayson is a landscape and nature photographer based in South-East Queensland. Her photography evolved from a passion for the natural landscape and a fascination with the ability to capture a moment in time. Exploring the unique landscapes of K’gari (the world’s largest sand island) inspired her to try and capture its rare beauty through a lens. She found her muse in the solitude of remote locations along the vast coastline, in the towering rainforests and across the undulating dunes. Her photography is an intimate interaction with nature. It seeks to transcend simple beauty, revealing timeless narratives and fresh new perspectives of the World Heritage listed island location. Her work is not merely about capturing the landscape; it's an exploration of the moment, and a dance with light. She creates evocative images through a minimalist lens; attempting to hold onto time, allowing elusive moments of exquisite light to linger and endure. Her first Gallery opened late 2003 in Hervey Bay, a mainland point of departure to K’gari. Her images have been captivating viewers for more than 20 years. After a long period showcasing fine art limited edition prints in that setting, she has now transitioned to an online platform at kgarigallery.com where she continues to offer prints. Her audience is drawn to a window into nature, an opportunity to pause and reflect, or perhaps simply escape for a moment. Robyn has a profound understanding of photography's power to convey stories, emotions, and unseen perspectives. In her hands, photography becomes not just an art form but a compelling invitation to witness, contemplate, and preserve the fleeting beauty of our planet. Her accolades, including numerous awards from prestigious international competitions underscore her commitment and professional skills. She views them as milestones in her career that demonstrate a desire to challenge herself and constantly seek to learn and develop. Her true fulfilment comes from creating images that lead to discovery, appreciation, and a deeper connection with our natural world. “The power to perpetuate an elusive moment of stillness and exquisite light in nature will always excite me. Somehow it feels like a step towards saving precious time”.
