Bio

Kim is a naturally curious person and a ‘looker’ who seeks out mundane, industrial and overlooked objects for her photographic collages. She is drawn to their shapes, texture and colour. Kim earned a Studio Arts Diploma in 1994, a B.F.A.(U.B.C) in 1999, and then a practical B.Ed. (U.B.C) degree in 2002. Since she retired from teaching in 2019, she has been creating and exhibiting her photographic collages in Calgary, Alberta, where she lives. She uses her cell phone camera to photograph objects such as floor drains, manhole covers and chain link fences. Repetition of the objects and altering the original colours is a nod to Andy Warhol. The process of colour editing, cutting up sheets that have been printed commercially, and then manually moving pieces around to achieve a satisfactory composition is what fuels Kim’s creativity. Kim has entered her work in several photography competitions with her work receiving a range of awards from jurors. Most recently, Kim had one of her pieces accepted into the 2025 Calgary Stampede Photo Gallery, which subsequently sold to a couple visiting from the Netherlands.
